Digital Cameras create heat when operating. If the camera is placed in a housing and taken into cool water, condensation very commonly occurs inside the housing. This is very similar to the condensation you get inside our car windshield on a cold night. If not dealt with, condensation can cloud the housing lens port and ruin your photos. Here are some steps to take to minimize condensation:
- Keep camera and housing in a cool area prior to dive. Keep out of direct sunlight as this will further heat the air inside housing.
- Try to avoid opening the housing prior to dive as that will allow warm surface air into housing.
- Place Silica Gel packets inside housing to absorb moisture.
