Tips for Minimizing Condensation

Digital Cameras create heat when operating. If the camera is placed in a housing and taken into cool water, condensation very commonly occurs inside the housing. This is very similar to the condensation you get inside our car windshield on a cold night. If not dealt with, condensation can cloud the housing lens port and ruin your photos. Here are some steps to take to minimize condensation:

  1. Keep camera and housing in a cool area prior to dive. Keep out of direct sunlight as this will further heat the air inside housing.
  2. Try to avoid opening the housing prior to dive as that will allow warm surface air into housing.
  3. Place Silica Gel packets inside housing to absorb moisture.
